Abstract
This text offers a literary review of the novel Ashes in the Mouth by Mexican author Brenda Navarro. It explores the complexity of human events through the voice of an anonymous protagonist coping with the painful suicide of her brother, Diego. The narrative delves into the deep ambivalences of family relationships, particularly fraternal and mother-child bonds. Furthermore, the work bravely and lucidly exposes the problems of a social system marked by inequality, addressing urgent themes such as migration, feminisms, discrimination, and poverty. Navarro's commitment is highlighted as she invites reflection on contemporary injustices through powerful and highly sensitive writing.
